Derek Harless
Field Superintendent
Being born and raised in the mountains, Derek has always enjoyed the unique aspects of their history and the backbone of America they represent. From the wooded hills to the winding highways, Derek has never lived somewhere other than the mountains. There have been many changes to the landscape, the economy, and the people over the years and it has proven to be a beautiful, unique place to live and work.
Derek started his working life when he was 14 years old carrying Christmas trees in the seemingly endless fields that abound “around these parts” and also worked at a local restaurant. He went into the world of building immediately after high school as a crew hand where he learned the hard skills and details of construction. This was a very important part of his development because there is nothing quite like seeing a job through from the beginning to the end.
Derek joined 4 Forty Four just before Hurricane Helene hit the mountains, and he is very grateful for the opportunity to work alongside this Team. After the storm hit, the term “backbone of America” became even more true as individuals, businesses, churches, neighbors, and fellow countrymen all came together and pitched in to help with the rebuilding efforts.
Derek has been married to his lovely wife Nikki for 15 years and counting. They live in Wilkes County with their three dogs and enjoy exploring creation, camping, and the movies. He believes that building a home is different from building a house and enjoys working alongside clients to achieve their end goals.
